You are going to fork out literally double or more to buy an ultrawide only to make compromises like watching videos with black bars or loosing substantial fps in games for the sake of 30% extra width.

BUT, you have to make fairly substantial compromises which I am not finding to be acceptable for the price you have to pay. I personally would really want one and I can definitely see why people like them so much. So I already have a 27" 1440p 144hz display that is working pretty well for me, hence why I am struggling to justify going for an ultrawide. Look at displayninja website and see news about incoming panels and state of production. I think new Acer will check all boxes and add adobe rgb 100% so more vibrant greens and blues ? Compare to regular screens. In your case I would buy 1440p 27 inch 240 hz and good color accuracy. unless it's AMOLED I think Also color shift and light bleeding is more noticable on curved screens What I noticed about uw is the panel is coming off the case after while. Most pleasant is the vibrant colors on your screen so you love to look at it every day. Perfect world would be 28-30 inch 4k monitor high refresh rate and good color accuracy.10 bit panel and then wait with gpu's to catch up That will.be my next upgrade.maybe next Navi cards. if I have bigger desk maybe ?!but I don't and I sit maybe 24-30 inch away from screen I had it for two weeks and I couldn't stand it. All this hype about ultrawide is not for me. If you like to watch movies or play some games with black bars on side that's up to you. maybe cos no adaptive sync on my old Asus. it's like sitting in front of bulb.splitting screen is nice if you work on one document and open did notice (screenshots )on doom when I run 27 144 hz monitor )next to 60.

ultrawide was too demanding for my current gtx1080.too much light from regular use big minus. I did have ultrawide and standard 27 1440p. But because it is such a large investment I don't want to end up feeling like I need to compromise visual quality just to make it work. Now, if ultrawides were much cheaper I wouldn't even be asking this question. For someone who plays AAA games and loves eyecandy with good framerates, is it even reasonable to assume a new gen mid range GPU will be enough to carry games for the next 4 years? This makes me question if I should invest in ultrawide if I want to be able to experience games at their intended settings. I do not believe the new GPUs will be some sort of miracle like some people are expecting. From what I am seeing, even a 2080ti hovers around 75fps in some games on maxed settings with an ultra wide (without ray tracing).

My question is, with the anticipated new gen games being much more graphics intensive (such as Cyberpunk 2077 for example), does it make sense for someone who normally buys mid range GPUs to upgrade to a ultrawide monitor that will suck even more performance? I was planning to buy a Nvidia 3070 (or whatever else will make sense in that sort of price range) but I am genuinely worried that I will have to lower settings too much in games just so that I can make use of a high refresh ultrawide monitor (especially if I want to possibly use ray tracing if it becomes more popular in games). In some instances, it is even more than that. On average, games loose about 15fps going from standard 1440p to ultra wide 1440p.

Doing some research, I was looking at some game benchmarks of 2440x1440 vs 3440x1440.
